So... it's been a while. Nearly two months, in fact. I have to say, the hiatus was entirely unexpected. Life tends to throw curve balls that are difficult to hit. I took a week off, then I had a hard drive failure that lost me nearly 500 gigs of data, then my pc's internal graphics decided it had only 256mb instead of 1.5 gigs it should. then I had to finish assignments, then I had a week long holiday with no internet (the horror), followed by mid terms. At that point, I was already over a month late, so I decided to fuck it and wait for the 2 week holiday I got starting yesterday. So here I am. Hopefully I'll be able to churn out some chapters over this time period.

Alright, I'm back. My exams are over, and now I'm in the midst of my summer vacation. Which means that I'll get back to at least a chapter a day schedule. So.... I've been away for a while. The tail end of my semester made me so busy that I basically had no free time to do much. The only reason I'm getting this chapter out is cause I have a bit of time before my finals start, and I have been piling on the translation bit by bit. With my exams from next week, there probably won't be too many chapters. But once that's over, I'll have a vacation, at which point I'll attempt to catch up to the author.

Which means if there are any more chapters between now and early June, they are extra and well out of my plans. For now, enjoy the short beginning of volume 4.

And that means that I have time to translate... on weekends. Classes started immediately after the midterms were over, so weekdays are still not very good for translating. Also, mid 30s degree celcius temperature doesn't really allow for work during the day. But enough about that. I have set a goal of catching up to the author and I intend to fulfill it. Lack of motivation is a serious thing

When I started translating this story, while I had a smaller goal of learning Japanese if I could, the main reason I started this was to take my mind off of other things. What were this things? Before I started out as a translator, I was (and still am) a fledgling writer. I had taken to writing fanfiction as a method of improving my writing skills. And it helped too, if you look at stuff I wrote 4 years ago and compare them to things I write now. I only had one ongoing story at the FF site, and I basically lost the plot of what I was doing, so I took a break and started translating as an outlet.

Now, after months of dillydallying, I had regained my mojo for writing, but it had resulted in me losing my mojo for translating. Over the past two weeks, I would get down to translate, get a few lines done, and just lose all motivation. Which is why you see such a really long gap between this chapter and the last.

What does it mean for the translation of this story if I restarted writing again. Nothing too drastic. I'm not going to drop this, no way in hell. But the updates might get a bit more sporadic if inspiration strikes me. I have some potential holidays over the course of the next two weeks which could lead too some more regular chapters, but I may end up having some other plans; have to wait and see.After that two week period is my semester mid-terms, so there definitely will be an enforced break there.

But let's not worry about what's to come in the future and instead enjoy today's chapter. It took a surprisingly dark and violent turn on me, but not too dark I suppose.

P.S. I'm posting this chapter in between classes while shirking my homework, I'll have to get back to that almost immediately after posting. And I haven't slept in 20 hours and I have a 2 hour class 2 and a half hour later, so wish me luck.

I have to say, I'm surprised that some people thought that I actually knew basic Japanese, cause I don't. I mean sure, I know the basic phrases that pop up in anime, but I can't actually read Japanese. That's what I use the software for. Although I think I can read Romaji a bit, but not much. What I do know is English. As someone who even though it is their second language had studied it all through my life and now into university, I can say that I'm confident in my English, mostly. What I do while translating is basically deciphering whatever the translating software throws at me, which range from easy to understand to wtf is this.

I'm kind of flattered that people don't notice my absolute inexperience in Japanese translating, but this is more of a disclaimer for people who think that I actually know Japanese.

So here's the first chapter for the day. I need some help with the name of a new character that appeared in this chapter, mainly because of what it's translating to.

This either romanizes to Rassen Shigaretto or Ratsusen Shigaretsuto according to the softwares. Now this is a girls name, which makes me think that Rassen goes better than Ratsusen, which doesn't flow at all. But my main problem is with the surname, which literally translates to Cigarette. If anyone can come up with a better alternative that fits in the context of the world, I'd be glad. Or else, she'd just be known as Rassen Cigarette from here on out, which I wonder if it was a gag from the writer or if he is just crap with names.

I'm back

So had a really long unannounced hiatus. Sorry about that. Like I said before, I don't usually get any time for translating other than weekends nowadays. And the last two weekends were just not good for translating. The first weekend I didn't have internet cause somehow they had switched up my connection with somebody else's who was not using the internet. And last weekend I went out of town on a family outing.

But this weekend will be a long one, which means that as long as I have internet and I can continue being motivated, there should be updates till Monday. So, you guys can look forward to that. Here's the first chapter to get this thing started.

So, my university started yesterday. The first day was exhausting. I had classes from 8 in the morning, they I had orientation at 10, followed by a tour around the campus on foot. Then I had to wait till 2 for the next class, which got postponed at the last second. With the tour and the commute, I think I walked over 5 kms yesterday. I ended up recuperating the entire day as I hadn't walked that much in a while.

In any case, as it is right now, there probably won't be any chapters on days I have classes. And depending on assignments and stuff, there might not be any chapters of my off days either. But for now, I can safely say that there will be chapters of Friday's and Saturday's. Treat chapters on other days as bonus ones that I managed because I had too much free time on my hands.

On a positive note, I'm studying English even though it's my second language. I hear that sometime during my 5 year stay, there'll be courses on translations. My English should improve over this time period.

It took me 56 chapters to realized that I had not been paying attention towards a characters speech patterns. A new character made me realize that I had messed up at least two minor characters patterns. Maybe I should go back and fix them at some point?
